As part of the celebration of the Ottawa Art Gallery's 15th anniversary, OAG is presenting The Bigger Picture: Portraits from Ottawa, its most ambitious exhibit to date with 222 Ottawa portraits by 78 image-makers. In this wide-ranging exhibition, Guest Curator Karen Love draws upon some 50 years of image-making in the Ottawa region to present works that portray many of the individuals who have populated this place. Although largely photographic, The Bigger Picture includes drawing, painting, sculpture and video. The images, all made since the mid-20th century, come from a wide range of sources. Contemporary artists include those who previously or now live in Ottawa, as well as some 'from away' who have undertaken projects about Ottawa people. Many works come from the city's collecting institutions. This salon-style installation assembles dozens of photographs originally from commercial studios, Ottawa news media, and national image banks, much of which is now housed in national and municipal archives. Illuminating the local as well as the national identities of Ottawa, The Bigger Picture's organizing principle is thematic, addressing ideas about family, youth and community; art and life; work and play; the street and public life; and the self, body and mind.

Dans le cadre des célébrations de son 15e anniversaire, la Galerie d'art d'Ottawa présente Les mille et un visages d'Ottawa, son exposition la plus ambitieuse qui réunit 222 portraits de personnes d'Ottawa réalisés par 78 artistes. Surtout photographique, l'exposition présente aussi du dessin, de la peinture, de la sculpture et de la vidéo. Les images, toutes réalisées depuis 1950, proviennent d'un large éventail de sources. Les artistes contemporains comprennent ceux qui vivent ou ont vécu à Ottawa, et ceux « d'ailleurs » qui ont réalisé des projets sur ses citoyens et citoyennes. Plusieurs ¦uvres proviennent de ses institutions dotées de collections. L'exposition réunit en outre des douzaines de photos originales de studios commerciaux, de services de nouvelles d'Ottawa et de banques d'images nationales - dont une bonne partie se trouve maintenant dans des archives nationales et municipales.
