Pop Up

temporary construction of recuperated building materials and fabric

"Germaine Koh's site-specific installation, which was constructed on-site at the SAIB, engages with found and re-purposed materials, including scraps, castoffs and waste. The materials themselves guide how the structure is made and what form it takes with previous projects ranging from small-dwellings to emergency shelters. Drawing on a myriad of concerns, including density, development practices and different ways of taking-up space, Koh's constructions offer prototypes of new modes of living. Questioning standards employed in contemporary architecture and in the built environment, these makeshift arrangements suggest a re-working of everyday practices towards the more sustainable and community-oriented." - Noa Bronstein, Public Volumes catalogue
